Blue Mountain Christian University opens SSAC series with 7-4 win over Point
Blue Mountain Christian University took the opener against Point University 7-4 Friday in an SSAC series at the BMCU Sportsplex, according to the school’s athletics department. The Toppers used consistent offense and calm pitching to establish a lead they never relinquished.
From the start, Blue Mountain set the tone. A passed ball with two runners on base allowed the game’s first run. The Toppers then scored in the second and third innings, with Jake Meilstrup driving in Yaidel Perez on an RBI double in the second. Perez added another RBI in the third, helping extend the early lead.
Blue Mountain continued to add to its lead. Reise Thomas hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth, bringing in another run. Point scored twice in the sixth, but Jarret Morris responded immediately with an RBI single to restore the lead by multiple runs. In the seventh, Morris delivered again with a two-RBI single, scoring Ross Polizzi and Jacob Bryant to make it 7-3.
Point made a late push, scoring two runs in the ninth, but Blue Mountain’s pitchers, Chip Harris and Jesse Hancock, kept the Skyhawks at bay. Harris started and Hancock finished, limiting Point’s threats. Offensively, Cody Presley recorded three hits, and Morris contributed key hits, as the team totaled 10 hits for the game.
Blue Mountain’s patience at the plate and timely execution helped secure the victory. The win sets a confident tone for the series as the teams prepare for Saturday’s game, according to sources.
