Blue Mountain Christian splits SSAC softball series with Point

West Point, Georgia — The Blue Mountain Christian Toppers split an SSAC conference doubleheader Saturday against the Point Skyhawks. The Toppers lost the first game 6-3 but responded with a 6-0 victory in the second.

In the opening game, the Toppers took an early lead in the first inning. Mikaylah Fuqua reached base and later scored on an RBI double by Aspen Teague. Blue Mountain Christian added another run in the third when Neely Barrier scored on a sacrifice fly from Teague, giving the Toppers a 2-0 lead.

Point responded with a strong offensive effort in the bottom half of the inning, taking the lead and adding another run in the fourth. The Toppers cut the deficit in the sixth when Bre Ramsey drove in Kelsey Camp with an RBI single. Ramsey finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double. Teague drove in two runs, and Anna Harrison and Barrier each recorded hits. Fuqua drew two walks and stole two bases to create opportunities.

Gail Wisher started in the circle for Blue Mountain Christian, and Janna Shaw pitched 3.1 innings of relief, allowing one run and striking out three. In the second game, the Toppers broke open the scoring in the fifth inning, beginning with a two-RBI triple from Teague that scored Fuqua and Harrison. Kelsey Camp added an RBI double, and the team scored two more runs later in the inning to take a 5-0 lead.

Blue Mountain Christian extended its lead in the sixth when Harrison scored to make it 6-0. Teague led the offense with two hits and two RBIs, while Camp and Harrison each contributed offensively. Fuqua, Karen Wisher, Chloe Shelton, and Barrier also recorded hits. Bri Langley pitched a complete game shutout, allowing three hits and striking out six to earn the win.

The Toppers will aim to carry the momentum into their next SSAC game against Point.
