Blue Mountain Christian splits doubleheader, earns first win of season

ATHENS, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian University’s baseball team split a doubleheader against Tennessee Wesleyan on Friday. The Toppers won the first game 9-6 before falling 12-2 in the second.

In the opener, Blue Mountain Christian jumped to an early lead with three runs in the first inning. The team responded to an early comeback attempt by Tennessee Wesleyan with key at-bats in the middle innings. The Toppers finished with 15 hits and capitalized on late scoring opportunities to secure their first win of the season. Jake Meilstrup led off with three hits and two runs scored, while Jarret Morris also had three hits and drove in a run. Hugh Parsons provided a spark off the bench with a two-RBI pinch-hit single, and Trace Roy added an RBI double.

Blue Mountain Christian added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings to seal the victory. In the second game, Tennessee Wesleyan built momentum early and extended its lead with multiple-run innings. The Toppers managed to score in the fourth inning on a single from Roy that drove in Reise Thomas, who also finished with a hit and a run scored. An additional run scored later in the game on a defensive miscue, but it was not enough to overcome the Bulldogs’ offensive surge.

The Toppers are scheduled to return home Tuesday to host Rust College.
