Blue Mountain Christian Softball Sweeps Delta State in Doubleheader
Blue Mountain Christian’s softball team edged Delta State 6-5 in the first game, then rallied for a 7-6 victory in the nightcap during a doubleheader Tuesday on the road, according to the schools.
In the opener, the Toppers took an early lead with a third-inning run driven in by Mikaylah Fuqua. They extended the lead to 3-1 in the fourth before Delta State responded with a surge in the fifth. Blue Mountain Christian answered immediately, with Neely Barrier delivering a two-RBI double in the sixth to put the Toppers back in front. Delta State scored once in the seventh, but Blue Mountain Christian held on to win, with Neely Cooper pitching all seven innings.
The second game saw Blue Mountain Christian jump ahead early, with Fuqua driving in a run in the first inning and Kelsey Camp adding an RBI single. Delta State responded and built a 6-3 lead with extra-base hits. The Toppers rallied in the sixth, highlighted by Vaye Savage’s three-run homer, tying the game at six. In the eighth inning, Bre Ramsey scored the winning run on a wild pitch, sealing the sweep. Anna Harrison led the offense with four hits, and Savage drove in four RBIs. Gail Wisher earned the win in relief, throwing 4.1 shutout innings.
The victories showcased Blue Mountain Christian’s resilience, clutch hitting, aggressive baserunning, and steady pitching, emphasizing their ability to perform under pressure and finish strong.
