Blue Mountain Christian softball sweeps Bethel in doubleheader
McKenzie, Tenn. — The Blue Mountain Christian softball team swept Bethel in a doubleheader Tuesday, winning 11-1 and 12-0 in McKenzie, Tennessee.
In the first game, the Toppers took control early, scoring in each of the first three innings. Maryn Macri drew a bases-loaded walk in the first inning, scoring Anna Harrison. The Toppers added three more runs in the second, highlighted by an RBI walk from Mikaylah Fuqua and a sacrifice fly from Aspen Teague.
Blue Mountain Christian continued to apply pressure, with Rachel Rommel driving in a run in the third and Macri adding another RBI in the fourth. The team extended its lead in the sixth and seventh innings, scoring five additional runs. Fuqua hit an RBI double, and Lakyn Nichols and Macri each drove in runs to secure the run-rule victory. The Toppers finished with 12 hits in the game. Fuqua went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Harrison scored four runs and had two hits. Nichols and Rommel each added two hits and an RBI. Madison Montgomery earned the win, pitching a complete game while allowing one run on six hits with five strikeouts.
In the second game, Blue Mountain Christian exploded for eight runs in the second inning to take control. Nichols started the scoring with a two-RBI triple, followed by Bre Ramsey’s RBI double. Aspen Teague added an RBI single before Kelsey Camp delivered a four-RBI home run, extending the lead to 8-0. The Toppers added three more runs in the third, including a two-RBI play from Harrison, and scored their final run in the fifth on an RBI single by Morgan Dupree.
Camp led the offense in game two, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Nichols added two hits and two RBIs, while Ramsey finished with two hits and two runs scored. Janna Shaw pitched two scoreless innings to close out the game, with Neely Cooper earning the win after three scoreless innings with three strikeouts. The team is set to carry its momentum into its next matchup.
