Blue Mountain Christian Men’s Golf Sets Program Record at Carey Collegiate

The Blue Mountain Christian University men’s golf team finished fourth at the Carey Collegiate presented by Walk-On’s at Canebrake Golf Club in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The tournament included 15 teams, with five NAIA programs ranked inside the Top 15 nationally and three others receiving votes, making it one of the strongest fields faced this season, according to the school.

Alex Nordstrom led the Toppers with a third-place finish, carding rounds of 70, 71 and 65 for a total of 206. His final round of 65 set a new program record for the lowest score in Blue Mountain Christian men’s golf history, finishing six under par on the Canebrake layout. Cobey Riddle also posted a solid performance, tying for fifth place with rounds of 69, 68 and 71 for a total of 208.

Simon Meiby contributed to the team’s efforts with rounds of 72, 69 and 74, finishing at 215 and placing inside the top 20. Damil Ataullah finished with rounds of 71, 75 and 76 for a total of 222, while Acen Lambert completed the lineup with rounds of 75, 73 and 77 for a total of 225, finishing 49th overall.

Head coach Kevin Barefield praised his team’s performance against a tough field. “Any time you can finish near the top of a field with this many ranked teams, it says a lot about the way our guys competed,” Barefield said. “Alex’s record-setting round was special to watch, and Cobey played outstanding golf all week. We had several guys step up, and this tournament showed that we can compete with some of the best programs in the country.”

The event’s strong showing, including multiple under-par rounds and a program-record performance, signals continued momentum for the Toppers as they head into the spring season, according to school officials.
