Blue Mountain Christian played a doubleheader against NAIA No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett on Friday in Blue Mountain, Mississippi. The Toppers lost both games but displayed resilience and competitive spirit against a top-ranked opponent, according to team sources.
In the first game, Georgia Gwinnett took an early lead with multiple scoring innings. Blue Mountain Christian responded offensively, finishing with nine hits and aggressive baserunning. Jake Meilstrup led off with a 2-for-3 effort, including two stolen bases and a run scored. Ross Polizzi drove in the first run with an RBI single in the sixth, and Trace Roy scored in the seventh to close out the scoring for BMC. On the mound, Benji Webb pitched four innings with three strikeouts, while Caden Moore threw a scoreless inning in relief to keep the game competitive.
The second game featured a more productive offensive showing for Blue Mountain Christian. The Toppers traded runs with Georgia Gwinnett and stayed within striking distance throughout. Meilstrup had a standout performance, going 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and five RBIs. Cody Presley added two hits and a run scored, while Reise Thomas, Ethan Hirons, and Yaidel Perez each contributed RBIs. The team totaled 10 hits and scored in four innings, including a late push to pressure Georgia Gwinnett until the final out.
Pitching in the second game was a combined effort from Chip Harris, Judson Griffin, and Jesse Hancock, with Hancock closing out the game. Defensively, Blue Mountain Christian continued to fight, limiting rallies and competing throughout both contests.
