Blue Mountain Christian Falls in First Two Games of SSAC Series at Thomas

Thomasville, Ga. — The Blue Mountain Christian Toppers continued Southern States Athletic Conference play Saturday with the first two games of a three-game series against the Thomas Night Hawks. The Toppers showed competitive moments but lost both contests, 9-2 and 5-2.

In the opener, Thomas took an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and adding a solo home run in the second to go ahead 3-0. Blue Mountain Christian responded in the third inning when Cody Presley drove in Jacob Bryant with an RBI single, trimming the deficit. Thomas added another run in the bottom half of the inning, and the Toppers answered again in the fifth when Yaidel Perez delivered an RBI single that scored Ross Polizzi, making it 4-2.

Thomas added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the victory. Perez led Blue Mountain Christian offensively, finishing 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Presley also contributed an RBI hit, and Bryant reached base four times, including three walks and a hit-by-pitch. Garrett Lance and Gavin Foley also recorded hits for the Toppers. On the mound, Caleb Hall worked 4.2 innings with one strikeout, and Ryan Murphy pitched the final 1.1 innings.

The second game saw Thomas jump out to a 4-0 lead after scoring four runs in the first inning and adding another in the fourth. Blue Mountain Christian fought back late, with Jake Meilstrup leading the offense, going 2-for-3 with a double, stolen base, and a run scored. The Toppers broke through in the seventh when Gates Gerhart hit an RBI double to score Jarrett Morris. They added another run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Perez, scoring Meilstrup.

Gerhart also finished with a double and an RBI. Chris Matthews started for the Toppers, while Jack Hearn threw four scoreless innings in relief, striking out three to keep the team within reach. Blue Mountain Christian will attempt to salvage the series in the upcoming finale against Thomas.
