Blue Mountain Christian defeats Williams Baptist 8-2 before game suspended

Walnut Ridge, Ark. — Blue Mountain Christian’s baseball team earned an 8-2 victory over Williams Baptist on Thursday afternoon. The game was suspended in the eighth inning and will resume tomorrow morning.

Blue Mountain Christian jumped to an early lead in the first inning when Cody Presley hit a two-run homer, driving in Jake Meilstrup. The Toppers held a 2-0 advantage before Williams Baptist responded in the third, tying the game at two on Lawson Aaron’s two-run single that scored Will Riley and Gavin Mink.

The Toppers reclaimed the lead in the fourth inning with an RBI single by Gates Gerhart, followed by a bases-loaded hit by Reise Thomas that brought home Gerhart. From there, Blue Mountain Christian maintained control, with Trace Roy driving in two runs with a sacrifice fly in the fifth and adding two more RBIs on a single in the sixth. An error by Williams Baptist allowed Roy to score again, extending the lead to 8-2.

Offensively, Presley finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Roy led the team with three RBIs and contributed on the bases. Jarret Morris also added multiple hits, helping to ignite rallies. On the mound, Blue Mountain Christian’s ace, Benji Webb, pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. His performance kept Williams Baptist from mounting a comeback.

The game was suspended in the eighth inning and will resume tomorrow morning in the top of the eighth, according to the teams.
