Blue Mountain Baseball Opens Season with Losses to Georgetown and No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan

ATHENS, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian University’s baseball team opened the 2026 season with two losses Friday. The Toppers lost to Georgetown (Ky.) 8-5 in the first game and to No. 5 Tennessee Wesleyan 15-5 in the second.

In the opener, Georgetown scored three runs in the first inning. Blue Mountain responded with a run on an RBI double by Ross Polizzi. The Tigers added another run in the second, but Blue Mountain tied the game at 4-4 in the third. The Toppers took a 5-4 lead after a fielder’s choice scored Ethan Hirons in the fourth.

Georgetown scored three unearned runs in the ninth to secure the victory. Blue Mountain’s Benji Webb started, pitching four innings with nine strikeouts but did not earn a decision. Jack Hearn pitched four innings of two-hit ball with five strikeouts. Ryan Murphy took the loss, despite not allowing a hit or earned run. Polizzi, Meilstrup, and Reise Thomas each had two hits for the Toppers, with Thomas driving in two runs.

In the second game, Blue Mountain was defeated by Tennessee Wesleyan, 15-5, in eight innings. The Bulldogs scored four runs in the first, three unearned against starter Caleb Hall. Wesleyan added two more in the second and four in the fourth. The Toppers rallied with a solo home run from Jack Hearn in the third and a double by Cody Presley in the fourth, scoring Reise Thomas. In the fifth, Meilstrup doubled in Hearn, and Thomas hit a two-run homer, making it 10-5.

The Bulldogs pulled away with five more runs later in the game. Hall suffered the loss, pitching 1.1 innings and giving up three earned runs on six hits. Thomas, Meilstrup, Polizzi, and Hearn each had two hits for Blue Mountain. The Toppers (0-2) are scheduled to face the same opponents Saturday at noon and 3 p.m. CT in Athens.
