Bethune-Cookman beats Jackson State 85-48 in SWAC game

Jackson State lost to Bethune-Cookman 85-48 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference game Saturday inside Moore Gymnasium in Daytona Beach, Florida. Despite a double-digit scoring effort from Daeshun Ruffin, the Tigers struggled offensively.

Ruffin finished with 19 points and six assists, marking his 16th game this season in double figures. He has scored in double figures in the last 10 games and 12 of the last 13, also recording six or more assists in eight of the past nine games, according to school sources.

Jackson State shot just 25.4% from the field (17-of-67) and 17.2% from three-point range (5-of-29). The team was more accurate at the free-throw line, hitting 90% (9-of-10). Bethune-Cookman shot 44.8% overall (30-of-67), including 31.8% from three-point range (7-of-22), and made 81.8% of free throws (18-of-22).

Doctor Bradley led Bethune-Cookman with 22 points and 10 rebounds, helping the Wildcats extend their lead throughout the game. The Wildcats also shot 45.7% from the floor (16-of-35) and 38.5% from three (5-of-13). They made all seven free throws attempted in the second half.

Jackson State led early but fell behind with 14:49 remaining in the first half. The Tigers shot only 22.9% in the second half (8-of-35) and just 7.7% from three (1-of-13). Bethune-Cookman maintained a strong shooting percentage in the second half, finishing at 43.8% from the floor and 22.2% from three-point range, while shooting perfect free throws (7-of-7).

Jackson State will continue its Florida road trip Monday night in Tallahassee against Florida A&M. The Tigers aim to bounce back after Saturday’s loss, according to team officials.
