Belhaven Track and Field Competes at KMS Invitational

The Belhaven University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed Sunday at the 2026 KMS Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama. It marked their third indoor meet of the season.

On the women’s side, senior Kimona Haynes posted a strong performance in the 60 meters. She advanced to the semifinals with a time of 8.03 seconds and improved to 7.98 in that round. Haynes finished sixth in the final with an 8.04. Her semifinal time was her fastest of the season. Yasmine McCann also competed in the 60 meters, running 8.43 seconds in preliminaries and 8.34 in the semifinals.

Haynes also excelled in the 200 meters, finishing third overall with a time of 25.60 seconds. Freshman Brycelyn Townsend completed the race in 28.67 seconds. In the 600 meters, Courtney Adams led the Blazers with a time of 1:56.48, followed by Myisha Turner at 1:59.51 and Destiny Griffin at 2:24.43. All three improved their indoor season bests.

The distance events showed progress, with Jocelyn Belonga running a 6:40.58 in the mile, over 14 seconds faster than her previous effort. Ruth Dixon finished in 7:26.85.

On the men’s side, Julius Phillips highlighted the sprints with a 22.66-second performance in the 200 meters, a personal season best. Freshman Seth Haynes finished in 24.70 seconds. In the 400 meters, Kenneth Mills led Belhaven with a time of 52.97 seconds, with Leeson Taylor close behind at 53.06. Jaheem Cook finished in 54.98 seconds as the team continues to develop in longer sprints.

Middle-distance runners also posted solid results. Drew Duckworth ran the 600 meters in 1:28.90, improving from his previous indoor effort. Jacob Turner finished in 1:33.54. Peyton Vandevuss completed the 800 meters in 2:26.69 during his second indoor race of the season.
