Belhaven Softball Splits Doubleheader at Jim McLeod Field

JACKSON — The Belhaven University softball team split a doubleheader Friday at Jim McLeod Field. The Blazers defeated Centenary College 6-5 in walk-off fashion before losing to Hardin-Simmons 11-2.

In the opener, Belhaven rallied in the second inning and secured the win in the seventh. After Centenary scored first, Reagan Bryan answered with a steal of home to tie the game. The Blazers took the lead in the second with a sacrifice fly from Grace Langston and a three-run double by Bryan. Centenary tied the game in the seventh, but Belhaven’s clutch hitting secured the victory. Maryanna Guy and AR Sharp scored the winning run on Williamson’s single.

Bryan finished with three RBIs and a double, and Ellie Williamson was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two walks. AR Sharp earned the win in relief, striking out two in two-thirds of an inning. Karley Rouse started and allowed three runs over five innings.

The nightcap saw Hardin-Simmons jump out early with a three-run first inning. Belhaven responded with a run in the second and another in the third but couldn’t keep pace. The Cowgirls extended their lead with four runs in the fifth and four more in the seventh, winning decisively. Harbour led the Blazers offensively, going 1-for-1 with a double and two walks.

Macy Funderburk took the loss, with relief appearances by Sharp, Harbour, and Olivia Burns. The team will continue its weekend schedule at Jim McLeod Field, facing Hardin-Simmons Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and Centenary at 3 p.m.
