Belhaven Softball Looks to Build on Success in 2026 Season

Jackson, Miss. — The Belhaven University softball team kicks off its 2026 season Thursday with a doubleheader against LeTourneau at home. The Blazers aim to build on last year’s 32-9 record and their second Collegiate Conference of the South championship, according to school officials.

2026 marks the program’s 30th season and the 16th under head coach Kevin Griffin. The team returns six players from last year’s roster, which included standout performances from seniors Reagan Bryan, Macy Funderburk, and Lauren Dunbar. Bryan led the team with 49 hits and 43 runs scored, while Funderburk posted a 2.00 ERA with a 17-4 record. Pitcher Macy Castleman also returns after making 12 appearances last season.

Preseason rankings have the Blazers second in the CCS poll, just behind Huntingdon College. The team received recognition in multiple polls, including 14th in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III poll.

Belhaven added 19 newcomers, including transfer and freshman players expected to contribute immediately. Notable transfers include junior shortstop Melissa Lopera from Hinds Community College and Maryanna Guy, a third baseman and catcher from Longwood University. Other transfers and freshmen bring additional depth to the roster, which features players from Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and other states.

The team’s schedule highlights key matchups, including a Feb. 13 doubleheader at No. 9 East Texas Baptist and a home game against Huntingdon on April 3. Fans can watch the season opener streaming online and follow updates on the team’s social media accounts.

Belhaven’s softball season promises to be competitive as the Blazers look to defend their conference title and contend for national postseason honors, officials said.
