Belhaven Men’s Basketball Extends Win Streak to Five with 98-70 Victory
JACKSON, Miss. — Belhaven University’s men’s basketball team extended its winning streak to five games with a 98-70 victory over an unspecified opponent Saturday at Rugg Arena. The Blazers improved to 8-7 overall and 2-0 in the Central Conference South Division.
The team controlled the game from the opening tip, using multiple scoring runs in each half. Seven players scored in double figures, contributing to a balanced offensive effort. Belhaven set the tone early with fast-paced, physical play on both ends of the floor.
The Blazers opened a lead with an 11-2 run, sparked by a fast-break layup from Dyllion Redmond, a transition finish from Neal Terry, and two free throws from Benjamin Stewart. Despite a brief rally by the visitors, Belhaven responded with a decisive stretch before halftime. DJ Jones stole the ball and scored, CJ Minton hit a transition three, and Kam Beverly added a putback to push the lead into double digits. The team entered the locker room with a 52-33 advantage after shooting nearly 49% in the first half.
Out of halftime, Belhaven maintained control. Redmond opened the second half with a layup, Terry followed with a dunk, and Minton made another transition three, increasing the lead to 63-41. A key run around the 14-minute mark turned the game further in favor of the Blazers. The team forced turnovers on three consecutive possessions, turning them into points, highlighted by back-to-back threes from Minton and a basket from Redmond. This pushed the lead past 20 points and effectively sealed the game.
Belhaven continued to score efficiently, with Stewart hitting a timely three, Dan Robinson scoring in the paint, and Kam Beverly adding free throws. The team surpassed 80 points with more than eight minutes remaining. As the outcome was no longer in doubt, the Blazers kept rotating their roster. Robinson finished with a pair of jumpers, Charleston Wallace made a shot in the lane, and Kaleb King scored late in the game. The final score was 98-70.
The Blazers shot over 53% from the floor, made 12 three-pointers, and recorded 19 assists. They also scored 21 points off turnovers and had 45 points coming from their bench. Belhaven will take nearly a week off before traveling to Lookout Mountain, Georgia, to face Covenant University on Friday at 5 p.m. For more updates, follow @BelhavenBlazers on Twitter and Instagram and like their Facebook page.
