Belhaven Baseball remains undefeated after rout of Alma

The No. 11 Belhaven Baseball team extended its undefeated streak to nine games with a 13-1 victory over Alma on Wednesday night at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi. The Blazers scored nine runs in the fifth inning and added four more in the sixth to pull away from the Scots.

Belhaven’s starting pitcher, Logan McNamara, was dominant early. He allowed only two hits over the first five innings, struck out four, and kept Alma off the board by working ahead in counts. McNamara escaped jams in the second and fourth innings, inducing weak contact and limiting damage.

The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning, when Belhaven broke through. Parker Ryan led off with a single, and subsequent batters reached base via hit-by-pitch and walk, loading the bases. Shawn Mitchell-Harvard delivered an RBI single, and Trey Flettrich followed with a two-run single. Austin Canale added two more RBIs with a single, and a series of errors by Alma allowed additional runs. The Blazers scored nine runs in the inning to take a 9-0 lead.

Alma scored its only run in the sixth on a single and a ground-ball double play. Belhaven responded immediately, with Trey Smith driving in a run on an RBI single. Blake McCarthy and Parker Ryan added RBI singles, extending the lead to 13-1. Ryan finished with three hits and four RBIs, while Canale had two RBIs and scored twice. Flettrich and Jackson also contributed offensively, with Jackson collecting two hits, including a double.

Relievers Ashton Bultron and Logan Gruber held the lead. Bultron allowed one run in the sixth but worked around traffic with a key double play, and Gruber pitched a scoreless seventh to seal the win. Belhaven will face Hanover in a three-game series beginning Friday with a doubleheader scheduled for 2 p.m.

The Blazers, ranked No. 11 in the latest D3Baseball.com poll, are 9-0 heading into the weekend. They aim to remain perfect as they continue their early-season run.
