Belhaven Baseball Extends Win Streak with Doubleheader Sweep

PEARL, Miss. — Belhaven baseball continued its strong start to the 2026 season Saturday at Trustmark Park, sweeping a doubleheader against North Park and Mississippi University for Women. The wins extend the team’s season-opening winning streak to seven games.

In the first game, the Blazers edged North Park 9-6. Sophomore left-hander Gunner Staten earned the win, allowing one hit over six innings. Staten, the reigning CCS Pitcher of the Week, kept the Vikings off balance after the first few innings. Belhaven rallied late with a five-run sixth inning and added four more runs in the seventh to secure the victory.

Belhaven’s offense was led by Jake McCann, who finished with a home run and two RBIs. Hayden Roberts contributed a triple and key RBIs. JD Weed reached base multiple times and scored twice. John Wade earned his second save of the season, closing out the game.

The second game saw Belhaven defeat MUW 6-3. The Blazers took an early 2-0 deficit after MUW’s two-run homer in the first inning but responded with a run in the second and tied the game in the fourth. They gained the lead in the seventh, highlighted by an RBI double from Parker Ryan and contributions from McCann and Weed.

Kaleb Smith pitched four solid innings for Belhaven, with Logan McNamara and Sage Rivere providing relief. Hayden Roberts finished with the final five outs to record his first save of the season. Canale led the offense with four hits and two runs scored, while Weed added three hits and two RBIs.

Belhaven will travel to Texas to face LeTourneau on Tuesday at 6 p.m., looking to continue its winning streak. Fans can follow updates on @BelhavenBlazers on Twitter and Instagram or like the team on Facebook.
