Belhaven Baseball Drops Opening Game to Millsaps
Jackson, Miss. — The No. 8-ranked Belhaven baseball team took an early lead but was unable to hold off Millsaps in a 14-7 loss Tuesday night at Twenty Field. The game opened the series for the 2026 Cowboy Maloney Series, with Belhaven falling to 17-4 overall.
Belhaven scored first in the second inning. Hayden Roberts reached base, and Chess Parker drove in an RBI single to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead. The team expanded its advantage in the third, with Austin Canale reaching on a single before Parker Ryan and Roberts added RBI singles. Owen Abney then delivered a two-run single, making it 5-0.
Millsaps responded quickly in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs highlighted by a two-run home run that cut Belhaven’s lead to 5-3. The game shifted further in the fourth inning, as Millsaps tied the game with a solo home run and two extra-base hits. A bases-loaded single then scored two runs, giving the Majors an 8-5 lead.
Belhaven trimmed the deficit in the fifth. Blake McCarthy, Ryan, and Roberts all singled, loading the bases. Abney drove in another run on a fielder’s choice to make it 8-6.
The Millsaps bullpen held strong, while the Majors extended their lead in the sixth with three walks and timely hitting to push the advantage to 10-6. Millsaps then added four more runs in the eighth, capitalizing on a hit batter, an error and two RBI hits to stretch the lead to 14-6. Belhaven scored once in the ninth on McCarthy’s solo home run, his first of the season, but it was not enough.
