Belhaven Athletes Alex Reed, Kenneth Mills Earn CCS Weekly Honors
Atlanta — Belhaven University athletes Alex Reed and Kenneth Mills earned weekly honors from the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS). Reed was named CCS Male Field Athlete of the Week, while Mills received CCS Field Rookie Athlete of the Week, the conference announced.
Reed, a junior, posted a pair of top-two finishes in the long jump. He opened the week with a second-place jump of 6.86 meters at the Belhaven Midweek Open. He then set a personal best of 7.01 meters at Southern Miss, placing second again. His mark ranks among the top 25 in NCAA Division III this season, according to the school.
Mills, a freshman, continued his successful debut season in the high jump. He won at the Midweek Open with a clearance of 1.88 meters and followed with a 1.98-meter jump at Southern Miss, finishing fifth overall. The latter mark set a new meet record and demonstrated his ability to compete against deeper fields, the school said.
The pair will compete this weekend at the Rhodes 7-Way Invitational, the final meet of the regular season before the CCS Outdoor Track & Field Championships later this month. Belhaven track and field fans can follow the team on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for updates.
