App State Softball Dominates Southern Miss in Series Opener

BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State softball cruised to a 17-4 victory over Southern Miss on Friday in the first game of a three-game series at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium. The Mountaineers tied their single-game home run record with seven homers in the win, according to team statistics.

Camryn Fisher improved to 12-3 on the season with the win, while Kayla Giardina fell to 10-4 following the loss for Southern Miss. Julia Glasgow and Hannah Christian led the Golden Eagles with two hits each. Christian also drove in one run and scored a run herself.

App State jumped ahead early, scoring three runs in the first inning on a two-out homer and an RBI single. The Mountaineers continued their offensive explosion in the second inning, with Macy Hamby hitting a grand slam and the team adding a total of eight runs in the frame. The game featured multiple home runs for App State, including a two-run shot in the third inning that extended their lead to 16-2.

Southern Miss attempted a rally in the fifth, scoring two runs with timely hitting from Julia Glasgow and Issie Coker, but the deficit was too large to overcome. The game concluded with a solo homer for App State, tying their program record for home runs in a single game.

Game two is scheduled for 2 p.m. CST Saturday and will be streamed on ESPN+. Fans can follow updates on the team’s social media accounts.

Southern Miss is 20-13 overall and 2-2 in Sun Belt play, while App State improved to 21-7 overall and 2-2 in conference action.
