Alcorn Women’s Tennis Tops Grambling in SWAC Pod Opener

Montgomery, Ala. — Alcorn State’s women’s tennis team opened the second Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Pod event of the 2026 spring season with a 4-0 victory over Grambling State on Friday morning at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center. The event is hosted by Alabama State.

Grambling State, which was playing its first match of the season, fell to 0-1 overall and in SWAC play. Alcorn, now 5-14 overall and 2-2 in conference, started strong by winning the top two doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Braves’ freshman duo of Amelia Tatafu and Hana Bajramovic secured the first doubles point with a 6-0 win over Grambling’s Ekaterina Dziova and Aaniyah Fyre. In the second doubles match, Katherine Grados and Natalija Nikolic defeated Sierra Sonko and Madyson Phillips, also by a 6-0 margin.

In singles play, Tatafu led 3-0 in her opening set before Dziova retired due to injury, giving Tatafu the win. Bajramovic secured her match with a 6-0 set win, and Grambling’s Frye and Sonko both received walkovers before second sets began. Zoe Crimmel also won her singles match by a 6-0 score before her opponent, Sonko, defaulted.
