Alcorn Women’s Tennis Completes Four-Match Road Swing with Loss to Southeastern Louisiana
HAMMOND, La. — Alcorn State women’s tennis team lost to Southeastern Louisiana 7-0 Tuesday at the Southeastern Tennis Complex. The match marked the end of a four-match road trip for the Braves.
Interim head coach Kersten Vanem-Walker had to withdraw from the No. 3 doubles position due to injuries. Despite that, freshmen Hana Bajramovic of Quebec City and Amelia Tatafu of Perth teamed up to earn a 6-4 victory over Bente Bierma and Paige Duncan at the top doubles spot.
The Lions secured the doubles point with a 6-1 win from Taisia Bolsova and Aitana Darder at No. 2 doubles, defeating Matea Andelic and Katherine Grados of Alcorn.
In singles play, Bajramovic pushed Marian Makashvili to a deciding super tiebreak at No. 2. Bajramovic dropped the first set but won the second before falling in the tiebreak, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8. Oihane Villanueva Lopez lost 6-3, 6-2 to Mariam Tetradze at No. 3.
Katherine Grados retired in her second set after losing the first 6-3, but managed to tie the second set at 1-all before withdrawing. The Braves are scheduled to return home Friday to face Sam Houston State at Hall’s Ferry Tennis Courts in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
