Alcorn State to Host Spring Football Showcase and Weekend Events in April
Alcorn State University will host its 2026 Spring Football Showcase on Saturday, April 11, at Jack Spinks – Marino Casem Stadium in Lorman, Miss. The event begins at noon and is part of a weekend celebration titled “A Taste of Alcorn,” aimed at highlighting campus and community activities, according to university officials.
Alcorn Football Head Coach Cedric Thomas described the event as more than just a game. “We want families to come out, bring the kids, enjoy everything this campus has to offer, and feel what it’s like to be part of the Alcorn Family,” he said. The weekend kicks off Friday, April 10, with a softball game against Texas Southern, starting at 4 p.m., followed by a campus “Game Night” at 6 p.m.
Activities on Saturday will include local food vendors, music, giveaways, and a cook-off competition among fans. An alumni football game is scheduled before the spring game kickoff at 2 p.m., which will feature two 20-minute halves and a special scoring system. Celebrity coaches are expected to participate, with details to be announced later.
Additional Saturday events include a battle of the bands featuring local high schools, Pee-Wee football games, and a raffle offering prizes such as tickets to the Southern Heritage Classic and Homecoming 2026, as well as an Alcorn bomber jacket. Fans will have opportunities to meet players and get autographs after the game. A later alumni event in Vicksburg will be announced closer to the date.
Thomas emphasized the value of the event for recruiting, noting that the atmosphere and facilities showcase Alcorn’s strengths. “When a prospect’s family comes out and sees the atmosphere, that sells itself,” he said. “We just have to show up and be Alcorn. That’s the energy this place brings.”
