Alcorn State Beats Mississippi Valley State 74-66
ITTA BENA, Miss. — Mississippi Valley State University’s men’s basketball team lost to Alcorn State 74-66 at the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex. The Delta Devils struggled early, hampered by limited bench support, which contributed to their defeat, according to the school.
Daniel Mayfield recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. He also added four assists and one block. Michael James scored a game-high 28 points on 12-of-21 shooting, including three three-pointers, showcasing his efficiency. X’Zaevion Barnett contributed 13 points and seven assists, both personal bests, while Mussa Mzein scored seven points. Jonathan Pace made four free throws, doubling his previous total for the season.
Mississippi Valley State, now 1-23 overall and 0-10 in the SWAC, remains winless in conference play. Alcorn State improved to 5-18 overall and 4-7 in the SWAC. The Braves hold an 81-38 series lead over the Delta Devils and have won 13 straight matchups. Mississippi Valley’s last victory over Alcorn was on February 16, 2019.
