Alcorn State Baseball to Join MLB HBCU Power Series in Mississippi

Alcorn State University’s baseball team has been selected to participate in the MLB HBCU Power Series, scheduled for February 12-15 at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi. The event, organized in partnership with Major League Baseball, is a multi-day showcase for HBCU baseball student-athletes.

The series will feature six historically black college and university teams, including Alcorn State, Grambling State, Jackson State, Prairie View A&M, Southern (La.), and Texas Southern. The event aims to highlight top collegiate talent while celebrating HBCU traditions in a professional ballpark setting.

Andrew Seymour, general manager of the Mississippi Mud Monsters, which hosts the event, said the series is a significant honor. “Being selected by and partnering with Major League Baseball speaks to what this ballpark and this team are capable of,” Seymour said. “It’s going to be a weekend full of great baseball and community pride.”

The series will include three days of games, from Feb. 13 through Feb. 15, with three game slots each day. All contests will be nine innings with a 10-run rule, creating a competitive yet fan-friendly environment. The event kicks off on Feb. 12 with a non-game day focused on team workouts, media moments, and festivities highlighting HBCU culture.

Trustmark Park, home of the Mississippi Mud Monsters and a member of the Frontier League, was chosen for its facilities and commitment to inclusive, community-oriented baseball events. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children 14 and under. Students with valid IDs from participating schools will receive free admission.

Carlton Hardy, Alcorn State’s second-year head coach, expressed pride in the opportunity. “It’s a great honor to showcase our talent in our home state,” Hardy said. “This exposure is vital for our program and HBCU baseball as a whole. We’re excited to be part of this historic event.”

Alongside the games, fans can anticipate a festive atmosphere with school colors, regional matchups, music, and cultural celebrations. Additional details, including schedules and on-site activities, will be announced later. Fans are encouraged to follow the Mississippi Mud Monsters on social media and Alcorn State Sports on Twitter and Instagram for updates.
