Alcorn State Baseball to Face Tougaloo in Doubleheader

Alcorn State University’s baseball team will play a doubleheader against Tougaloo College on Tuesday at Earl Sanders Field in Tougaloo, Mississippi. The first game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m., with the second at 4 p.m., according to school officials.

The Braves, who hold a 5-19 overall record and a 1-5 mark in conference play, are aiming to bounce back after a recent loss to Bethune-Cookman. The team’s top hitter, Jaylyn Bennett, is batting .312 with 24 hits and five doubles. He also has a 16-game reached-base streak, according to team stats.

Tougaloo enters the game with a 9-12 record and a 4-7 record in conference play. The Bulldogs are led offensively by Gage Lewis, who is batting .333 with four doubles. Pitcher Caleb Carter, with a 3-2 record and a 4.39 ERA, is the team’s top starter.

Alcorn’s coach, Daryl Hardy, emphasized respect for Tougaloo’s program. “They bring energy and attention to detail. We expect a fight, and we’re prepared to compete,” Hardy said. He also highlighted the importance of the doubleheader for evaluating players and gaining experience in game situations.

The upcoming games are part of the teams’ ongoing seasons, with Alcorn preparing to face Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a three-game series later in the week. Fans can follow updates on Alcorn State sports through the school’s official social media channels.
