Alcorn Men’s Basketball Edges Jackson State in Comeback Victory

Alcorn State’s men’s basketball team overcame an early deficit to defeat Jackson State 83-65 Saturday night at the Davey L. Whitney Complex in Lorman, Mississippi. The win improves the Braves’ record to 7-19 overall and 6-8 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.

Alcorn’s head coach, Jake Morton, was ejected early in the game after receiving two technical fouls within two minutes. He also recorded a season-high 14 rebounds, marking his second double-double of the year. Jameel Morris added 22 points, matching his season high, and scored 10 of those in the second half. Lancaster contributed 11 points and three assists.

The Braves’ defense was effective, forcing 13 turnovers by Jackson State and limiting high scorer Daeshun Ruffin to just five points in the second half. Alcorn scored 49 points after halftime, including 22 points off turnovers and 11 fastbreak points, to secure the win. Morris’s second-half scoring surge helped extend the lead, with the team finishing strong down the stretch.

Jackson State, with an 8-6 conference record, led for most of the first half but was overtaken late in the period. The Tigers were up 33-24 before Alcorn responded with an 8-0 run to close the half tied at 45. The teams will face off again on Thursday in Houston when Alcorn travels to play Texas Southern.
