Alcorn Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader from Tougaloo
Alcorn State baseball swept a doubleheader against Tougaloo on Tuesday at Earl Sanders Field in Tougaloo, Mississippi. The Braves won the first game 15-7 and the second 17-7, improving their season records to 6-19 and 7-19, respectively, according to team sources.
In the opener, Alcorn exploded for 10 runs in the fifth inning, turning a close game into a blowout. The Braves scored in five of seven innings and totaled 14 hits. Keatan Hawk led the offensive charge, driving in three runs with a triple in the fifth. Julian Jarrett, Adrian Vallescorbo, and Jamir Hollway each singled home a run during the inning. Rayfield Adams III went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two stolen bases.
Alcorn took an early lead in the second inning without a hit, thanks to a walk, stolen bases, and an error by Tougaloo. The Bulldogs briefly led in the fourth before the Braves’ big fifth inning. Kanious Davis earned the win, working three scoreless innings. Tougaloo’s Tony Bradley Jr. took the loss, surrendering 11 runs in 4.1 innings.
The second game saw Alcorn score early and often, winning 17-7. The Braves stole 13 bases and scored in five of seven innings. Jaylyn Bennett starred offensively, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including a two-run homer in the fifth. Chase Moore added three RBIs and two stolen bases. Gavin Caston and Julian Jarrett contributed offensively as well.
The Braves’ second inning was particularly productive, with a seven-run rally that expanded their lead. Tougaloo committed four errors in that frame, aiding Alcorn’s offensive burst. Myles Dews earned the win on the mound, improving to 2-0, while Caleb Carter took the loss for Tougaloo. The Bulldogs finished with five errors, which contributed to their defeat.
