Alcorn Baseball Falls to UAPB in Series Finale

Pine Bluff, Ark. — Alcorn State dropped its final game of a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday, 14-2. The Braves struggled on the mound and offensively, despite some bright spots, at Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (13-7, 7-2 SWAC) was led by Zach Wieder, who had a big day at the plate. He singled, doubled, and tripled in five at-bats, driving in runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings. Blake Coleman added a two-run homer in the fifth, part of a four-run inning that helped put the game out of reach. Coleman finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs.

Ryland Morin (2-1) earned the win for UAPB, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits over six innings. He struck out seven and walked one. Joe King closed the game, striking out two in the seventh inning.

Alcorn (7-22, 1-8 SWAC) took an early lead. In the first inning, Kanious Davis reached on an error, stole second and third, and scored on a single by Rayfield Adams III. Adams finished 2-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases. Hawk contributed a two-RBI single later in the game, showing his clutch ability with runners on base.

The Braves’ pitching struggled throughout the game. Starter Yoni Castro lasted only 1.2 innings, giving up four runs on three walks. Hayden Konkler pitched three innings but surrendered eight runs on nine hits, including Coleman’s home run.

Despite the loss, the Braves showed potential at the plate and on the bases. Their ability to manufacture runs was evident in the first-inning rally. Alcorn will return to action Thursday, hosting Mississippi Valley State at Willie E. “Rat” McGowan Stadium in Lorman, Mississippi, for a three-game series beginning at 6 p.m.
