Alcorn Baseball Edges Jackson State in Extra Innings at Trustmark Park

Alcorn State rallied to beat Jackson State 8-7 in 10 innings Sunday at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi. The game was part of the 2026 HBCU Power Series hosted by Major League Baseball.

With the game tied at 7 in the bottom of the 10th, Keaten Hawk delivered the game-winning RBI on a fielder’s choice. Hawk’s grounder to second allowed Rayfield Adams III to score from third. Adams reached base with a single, and a bunt single from Kanious Davis put the winning run in scoring position. Jackson State reliever Talmadge Davis threw a wild pitch, allowing both runners to advance. Hawk then scored on a chopper to second by Hawk, whose hit was thrown wide of the catcher.

Alcorn snapped a losing streak to Jackson State that dated to 2019. Jackson State took an early lead with two runs in the first inning and added four more in the fourth to go ahead 6-0. The Tigers’ big inning was highlighted by an Alvarez walk and key hits from Isaac McClenty and Pierre Cabral.

Alcorn responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, sparked by Adams’ two-run single. Hawk followed with a two-run single, and a wild pitch allowed Jaylyn Bennett to score, making it 6-4. The Braves took the lead in the seventh with a three-run inning, including a key balk by Jackson State reliever Jaedeyn Edwards. Harris tied the game at 6 with a single, scoring Bennett.

Jackson State re-took the lead with a run in the eighth, but Alcorn answered in the bottom half with a triple from Tyshon Patty and subsequent scoring plays, tying the game at 7. Kanious Davis earned the win in relief, tossing a scoreless frame with two strikeouts. Freshman Kayden Sutton started for Alcorn, going three innings and allowing six runs.

Jackson State reliever Joe Williams took the loss after allowing one run in one inning. Offensively, Hawk led Alcorn with two hits and four RBIs. The Braves will next face No. 3 Mississippi State on Tuesday at Dudy Noble Field in Starkville, Mississippi.
