Alabama State Surges Past Mississippi Valley State After Early Lead
ITTA BENA, Miss. — Mississippi Valley State University’s softball team scored three runs early against Alabama State but couldn’t maintain the lead, losing 8-4 at MVSU Softball Field.
Alabama State’s starter, Amanda Cintron, was chased after only two outs in the first inning. The Hornets responded with a rally, eventually overcoming the Diamond Devilettes’ early advantage. The Hornets now lead the series 74-46, with Alabama State winning the last 18 meetings.
Sheridan Kynard sparked the Diamond Devilettes’ offense, drawing a walk, stealing second and third, and scoring on a Taniya Partee single. Madison Wesley led at the plate with two hits, including a triple and an RBI single. Ashtyn Clark added an RBI and pitched two relief innings. Hailey Akers also contributed with a double and a single, crossing the plate once.
Mississippi Valley State, which falls to 1-11 overall and 0-3 in SWAC play, will hit the road for its next game. The team will play at Florida A&M on Friday at 5 p.m. Central Time.
