Northeast Mississippi Softball Edges Wabash Valley 1-0 in Pitchers’ duel

Northeast Mississippi, also known as the Tigers, secured a 1-0 victory over Wabash Valley College on February 28, 2026, in a game marked by strong pitching and clutch hitting. Emma Abrams earned the win for the Tigers, throwing a complete game with 7 innings pitched, allowing only 5 hits and 2 runs, striking out 2 and walking none.

For the Tigers, Leah Walkerss led the offensive effort with 2 hits in 4 at-bats, including a home run in the first inning that brought in the game’s only run. Sophie Gant added two RBIs, including a key double in the 5th inning that drove in two runs, while Chloe Skelton contributed an additional RBI with her two-base hit in the same inning. Adin Shelton also had a solid game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, and scored twice.

Wabash Valley’s Olivia Hemmerle took the loss, surrendering the decisive run in the 5th inning and pitching all 5 innings. She allowed 9 hits and 6 runs, walking only one but hitting two batters. Despite their offensive struggles, the Warriors managed to produce five hits, with E. Wampler tripling and knocking in two RBIs in the 6th inning. The game was a pitchers’ battle throughout, with both teams making key defensive plays to keep the game scoreless until the Tigers pulled ahead in the fifth inning.
