Northeast Mississippi Edges Wallace State in Low-Scoring Victory
Northeast Mississippi Community College secured a 4-1 victory over Wallace State Community College-Hanceville in a tightly contested baseball game. The Tigers took an early lead with a two-run first inning, highlighted by H. Eaton’s single that drove in two runs. Wallace State responded in the first with a three-run homer from C. Cumming, unearned, putting them ahead 3-2.
In the top of the fifth, the Tigers rallied strongly, with Kieran Colemanss getting on base via a walk and eventually scoring on an unearned error. Conner McKnattrf contributed a single, and Jonah Warren drew two walks, setting the stage for the second baseman, Hank Eaton, who homered to left field with two outs, driving in four runs and giving Northeast Mississippi a commanding 8-3 lead. The Tigers maintained their advantage with solid pitching and timely hitting, preventing Wallace State from mounting a significant rally.
The Tigers’ pitching staff featured Hank Eaton taking the loss, surrendering nine runs in two innings, with only two earned runs due to unearned errors. Cam Harrison, Steele Brooks, Cooper Davis, and Ben Basil kept Wallace State in check after Eaton’s departure, with Basil recording a strikeout in relief. Offensively, Brody Winemiller led Northeast Mississippi with a double and four RBIs, while Gavin Puckett added two hits and an RBI. On the opposing side, Ryan Everly pitched well for Wallace State, earning the win with four innings of two-run ball, striking out three. Despite Wallace State collecting 20 hits, they could only push across one run, falling short in the final score.
