Jan. 31, 2025-A familiar voice will now be calling Mississippi State baseball games.

Neil Price, who has served as the “Voice of the Bulldogs” for football and men’s basketball since 2017, has added “Voice of the Diamond Dawgs” to his duties.

Price will assume the play-by-play role for Bulldog baseball, previously held by veteran broadcaster Jim Ellis, who retired in December.

Price, who was named the state of Mississippi’s Sportscaster of the Year by NSMA Sports Media for 2024, will also contribute to the strategy and creation of MSU Athletics digital content, including interviews, features, podcasts, and more.

“It is an honor to be named the broadcaster for one of the most iconic programs in college baseball history,” Price said. “It is humbling to follow Jim Ellis in this role. Jim’s broadcasts set the standard for college baseball on the radio. Over 46 seasons, Jim played a major role in building the popularity of the Diamond Dawgs. I will do my best to follow his wonderful example.”

“I look forward to sharing the booth with two Mississippi State legends, Coach Ron Polk and Jay Powell,” Price said. “Together, I hope we will deliver broadcasts that keep State fans informed about their team and make them proud to be Bulldogs.”

Since joining MSU and being named the “Voice of the Bulldogs” in 2017, Price has called more than 350 Mississippi State football and men’s basketball broadcasts on the Bulldog Sports Network. He has also hosted “Dawg Talk,” a weekly radio show devoted to Mississippi State Athletics.

Price previously served as the general manager of the Mississippi State’s WMSV radio station from 2023-24, a Department of Communication lecturer during the 2018-19 year, and the manager of the MSU University Television Center (MSTV) from 2019-22.

“Neil is a premier broadcasting voice in the country, and we’ve seen firsthand the quality of his work and the connection he has with fans,” MSU Director of Athletics Zac Selmon said. “His passion for both his craft and the Bulldogs, along with his vast broadcast experience, makes him the perfect fit to succeed the legendary Jim Ellis. Neil’s ability to bring special moments and memories to Bulldog fans of all ages is a testament to his talent and work ethic, and his enthusiasm for Mississippi State shines through in every call. We are thrilled to have him step into this role, and we look forward to hearing many more incredible stories told and iconic moments called.”

Before coming to Starkville, Price served as the radio broadcaster for baseball and women’s basketball, as well as network manager for the University of Kentucky Sports Network from 2005-17. He also worked as broadcast coordinator at Middle Tennessee State University from 2002-05.

A Tennessee native, Price earned his bachelor’s degree in mass communication and electronic media journalism from MTSU.

The 2025 season begins on Feb. 14, when the Diamond Dawgs host Manhattan in a three-game series at Dudy Noble Field.

Mississippi State’s 55-game schedule features 31 home games, 18 road contests and six neutral-site matchups. The schedule includes the Diamond Dawgs playing seven of their first eight games at home and an eight-game homestand from April 29 to May 13.
