Behind a quick score from Raegan Tucker and another goal before halftime, No. 3 Northwest added two more goals in the second half during Friday’s neutral-site shutout against Dallas College-Brookhaven.
Dallas College-Brookhaven entered the match as the defending NJCAA Division III national champions and was No. 1 in that level’s preseason rankings.
Tucker’s first goal was assisted by Caroline Chandler less than five minutes into the match, but Chandler followed with a goal of her own in the first half, helping the Lady Rangers to a 2-0 lead at the break. Tucker and Emma Earwood combined to assist Chandler on the score.
In the 60th minute of the match, Northwest responded with its third goal of the match, sparked by a feed from Earwood to Mari Julia Delgado. Late in the match, Alexandria “Penny” Warner also got in on the action, tapping in a goal off Evie Crawford’s assist.
Anna Kathryn Harrell notched five saves in the match and earned her third win of the season between the posts.
Northwest improved to 3-0-0 on the season, while Dallas College-Brookhaven dropped to 1-1. The Lady Rangers will travel to St. Louis next week to face 18th-ranked St. Louis Community College (Sept. 6) and No. 9 Southwestern Illinois (Sept. 7).
