Northwest lands four selections to all-MACCC softball team
May 16, 2025 – Ahead of its upcoming trip to the NJCAA Division II Softball World Series next week, Northwest has had four of its players receive All-MACCC honors, the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference announced on Thursday.
Infielder Ellie Fryar was the Rangers’ lone first team selection, followed by outfielder Carly Dunigan as a second team honoree. Outfielder Thenya Kennedy and pitcher Morgen Brewton rounded out the honors for Northwest, with both players earning Honorable Mention accolades.
Fryar’s skills went far beyond her every day position of third base, as the Dumas native led the Rangers with a whopping .450 batting average. The Pine Grove product and Mississippi College commit also led the team with 16 doubles and nine triples, tying teammate Dunigan for the team lead and record-holders in single-season and career triples.
Fryar played in all 52 games for Northwest, missing only one start. Her eight home runs and 41 RBIs also second on the team in both categories, and she joined Kennedy with a team-high 17 walks drawn. Additionally, Fryar was 17-for-19 in stolen base attempts, good for the second-most on the team.
As the Rangers’ routine third baseman, Fryar posted a .918 fielding percentage this season, helping turn three double plays.
Dunigan compiled a .393 batting average and 40 RBIs this season, along with the aforementioned numbers in doubles and triples. The Senatobia product also finished the season with a team-high nine sacrifice hits, tied for the fourth-most in a single season.
Dunigan’s most consistent position was center field, where she started 51 of her 52 games played. The Delta State commit earned a .977 fielding percentage with 82 putouts in 87 total chances.
As one of two Honorable Mention All-MACCC selections, Kennedy patrolled right field for the Rangers all season, starting 51 of her 52 games played. The Yazoo City native is currently the team’s third leading hitter, compiling a batting average of .375 with two doubles, four triples, two home runs and 30 RBIs.
A Jackson State commit, Kennedy has finished with a .987 fielding percentage, recording 72 putouts in 75 total chances.
In the circle, Brewton has posted a 24-3 record with a 2.66 ERA, totaling 32 appearances on the season. The Mobile, Ala. native has also finished with 10 complete games and six shutouts, striking out 159 batters against 32 walks in 152.2 innings pitched. She has also held opposing hitters to a .211 batting average.
Northwest (42-10) is making just its second trip to the NJCAA Division II Softball World Series, the first since 2022. The Rangers earned one of four coveted at-large bids to the 20-team tournament field, drawing Phoenix College to open the national tournament on Monday, May 19.
