Northwest football implements Clear Bag Policy

Aug 8, 2024– The Northwest Mississippi Community College Police Department has announced that the college will be implementing a clear bag policy at all Northwest football events in the fall to help ensure the safety of visitors, students and players.

Football is normally one of our largest events hosted on campus. This new safety policy will be implemented at home football events.

“Our football games have attendance similar to many four-year institutions in the area,” said Northwest’s Police Chief Kenneth Free. “This policy is in line with those institutions and is another tool we can use to increase overall safety for all attendees.”

Chief Free said this policy is meant to increase campus safety and hopes to limit the inconveniences to attendees. The college is trying to combat that inconvenience by selling clear bags at the front gates and the Ranger bookstore. There will be little impact on our normal tailgating activities. The VIP, coach, and team entrances will have little or no change from normal entry procedures.

The policy stipulates that people are allowed to bring in clutches no larger than 6.5″ X 4.5″, seat cushions that have no pockets, a clear plastic one-gallon resealable bag, or a clear bag no larger than 12″ X 6″ X 12″.
