Bulldogs fall to Texas A&M in SEC Tournament

The Mississippi State women’s basketball team fell to Texas A&M, 72-56, in the second round of the 2024 SEC Tournament inside Bon Secours Wellness Arena at Greenville, S.C. on Thursday, March 7.
Mississippi State is now 21-11 overall on the season.
Graduate student center Jessika Carter finished with 12 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field and eight rebounds in 37 minutes, while senior guard Darrione Rogers added 12 points, five rebounds and three assists in 26 minutes.
Texas A&M held a 14-9 lead after a defensive first quarter in which Mississippi State forced its opponent into six turnovers. The Bulldogs forced 13 turnovers on the afternoon and turned it into 11 points.
Mississippi State found its offensive groove in the second quarter and converted on 50 percent from the field in the frame. The Bulldogs outscored the Aggies 12-11 in the second quarter to cut its deficit to 25-21 entering halftime.
Senior guard Jerkaila Jordan led the team with eight points and five rebounds at the half. Seven of the 21 points came on fast break opportunities.
Texas A&M built its margin on a 16-3 run through the opening minutes of the third quarter. Carter provided the offensive push out of the halftime break with six of Mississippi 14 third-quarter points.
Mississippi State traded baskets with Texas A&M throughout the final 10 minutes with each team scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter, but could not mount the late comeback.
Mississippi State will now await its postseason fate on Selection Sunday, March 17.
