Blue Mountain Christian University has announced that Curt Fowler will be its fifth Athletic Director at the North Mississippi institution.
Fowler has served as the assistant athletic director for three years at BMCU, and prior to that was head baseball coach for 11 years.
Fowler, who started the baseball program 14 years ago, takes the reins from outgoing athletic director Will Lowrey, who resigned two weeks ago for a position in South Carolina.
“During Curt’s long tenure at BMCU, he has earned the respect and the admiration of his colleagues and peers,” BMCU President Dr. Barbara McMillin said. “Curt’s belief in the mission of the institution combined with his willingness to invest in the lives of student-athletes render him highly qualified to take on this role. We are confident he will provide stellar leadership of our intercollegiate athletic program.”
Fowler will oversee a collegiate department with 17 NAIA programs, including 10 non-NAIA clubs and programs.
“I’m very grateful to Dr. McMillin for the opportunity to lead our athletic department,” Fowler said. “It’s a great privilege for me to work alongside a coaching staff I already deeply respect. Blue Mountain Christian has always been a special place to not only me, but my entire family, so it’s humbling I’ve been entrusted by the University to take on this role.”
A native of Blue Mountain, Fowler is married to BMCU alumna Fancy Bennett Fowler. They have one son, Case, who will be a freshman at BMCU in the fall.
“I consider it a great blessing to continue to institute our strong Christian faith and heritage in athletics, while also continuing to invest in the lives of our student-athletes. We really appreciate Will and his contributions to BMCU during his tenure.” Fowler said.
